TwitKit

July 22nd, 2008

TwitKit TwitKit is a Firefox add-on that works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. The add-on lets you interact in Twitter in several ways. You can view a “me” tab where you can see all the stats about your friends, your location, how many times you’ve updated, etc. You can manage your network on tabs named “friends” and “followers” and you can reply, favorite, and delete tweets.

Update, 8/3/08, TwitKit blog:  TwitKit 1.1. released. Here’s a list of all of the new features, ordered by when they were complete:

  • Undocking. Click the little arrow in TwitKit’s top-left corner, and it’ll jump out of the sidebar and into a separate window.
  • Tab images. Instead of having those word-filled tabs take up space, we decided to use images. This makes the top area a lot less cluttered, and will allow us to implement other super-secret features later on.
  • SSL support. This allows your connection with Twitter to be secure. The option can be modified in TwitKit’s preferences window, in the “Connection” area.
  • New icons. The Fugue icon set has given TwitKit a great, fresh look.
  • Markdown support. This allows you to put things like italic, bold, and underlined text in your tweets - using John Gruber’s awesome Markdown system.
  • Copying selected text. We’ve added another icon next to the “Compress URL” button - Copy Selection. This will copy any text that’s selected in the main Firefox window - or if nothing is selected there, it’ll copy what’s selected inside TwitKit. This means you can retweet by highlighting the tweet and pressing the button.
  • Localization support. We’ve added 3 new languages in this release - German, Japanese, and Hebrew. Thanks to @Heini, @turutosiya, and @GuyLevin respectively for performing the translation! (Follow them on Twitter; these guys are schweet.)
  • Reply highlighting. If someone tweets a @reply to you, it’ll be highlighted. (You need to be logged in for this feature to be enabled.)
